YMCA Structure

The YMCA Movement in England

YMCAs in England are Christian charities belonging to a national and worldwide Movement.

Our central purpose is to meet the needs of young people, particularly at times of need and regardless of their gender, race, ability or faith.

The YMCA provides high quality programmes that help young people to grow in mind, body and spirit. These programmes are delivered by autonomous YMCA associations (member YMCAs), which affiliate to the National Council of YMCAs (YMCA England).

Currently, some 135 YMCA associations make up the YMCA Movement (the YMCA) in England, in addition to various other operating units.

The role of YMCA England is to:
  • Support member YMCAs in their work through the provision of information, advice, expertise and the sharing of good practice.
  • Represent the interests of the Movement at regional, national and international level.
  • Develop and promote the growth and the quality of the YMCA's work.
