Knights Millennium Foyer (KMF) is a separately registered charity and company limited by guarantee for which South London YMCA provides management support. In 2004 the Charity Commission asked SLYMCA to take over the management of this project, which had been failing, and appointed SLYMCA as corporate trustee.
KMF is home for 80 young single homeless people aged 16-25, many of them from black and ethnic minority backgrounds. Support is provided for 50 of our 80 bed spaces. The remaining 30 bed spaces are non-supported and house young people who are ready for independent living, but are awaiting suitable move on options.
Experiences before coming to KMF are varied, some young people are simply homeless, whilst others may have experienced family or relationship breakdowns, be ex-offenders, have substance misuse issues, be unemployed or be in need of education or training.
The service aims to support our customers in developing independent living skills, assist them to obtain the necessary income advice, access education, training or employment relevant to their goals, and move them on to permanent, independent accommodation. Some residents are supported to access other relevant support services in the community to help them sustain their occupancy.
KMF is in the process of redevelopment, and will be replaced with a highly sustainable and better quality residential building next door. The new building is due to open spring 2015.
