The aim of all YMCA housing projects is to provide a safe and supportive environment which enables young people to move from dependent to independent living.
Most YMCAs provide hostel accommodation for 16-30-year-olds who are in housing need, though some do have accommodation for short-stay holiday travellers.
YMCAs also provide accommodation for young people who may not have additional support needs - for example, students or young workers away from home for the first time.
The YMCA offers 2 types of accommodation:
This type of accommodation is generally found in the large YMCAs located near to city or town centres.
Staying at the YMCA
Most residents of YMCA accommodation have been referred to us - either through self-referral (for example, when a young person is in housing need and makes contact with a housing worker at a YMCA), or through referral from another organisation or agency - for example a Local Authority, Social Services, Probation Service, other housing provider or other charity.
Each YMCA has its own procedures for selection and allocation of accommodation for young people and all YMCAs have on-site support staff available to provide advice and who provide security.
To find out about room rates and facilities, and also to apply for accommodation, you will need to get in touch with the particular YMCA at which you would like to stay - use this directory of YMCA accommodation to find out contact details.
Tourist/ hotel accommodation
A few YMCAs provide accommodation suitable for tourists/ overnight visitors.
These include:
YMCA Cambridgeshire & Peterborough
If you are wanting to find budget/ traveller accommodation in towns other than these, then try the Youth Hostel Association.
