Following the Queen’s Speech today ( 21 June), YMCA England & Wales responds to the key issues affecting young people which were outlined in the new Government’s plans.
Denise Hatton, Chief Executive for the National Council for YMCA’s in England & Wales, said:
“It’s positive that the Queen’s Speech focuses on many of the issues crucial to young people’s lives, which YMCA raised ahead of the election.
“Renewed attention to schools and technical education, improved mental health services and additional housing are a welcome step to give young people the support and opportunities they need to succeed.
“However, history has shown us that promises to younger generations do not always materialise into action on the ground that positively affects them.
“What’s crucial this time around is that the new Government delivers on its plans with a renewed focus on how these will impact on young people.”
