Young people, staff, volunteers and YMCAs from across England have been honoured this week for a whole host of amazing achievements, incredible feats and a tireless dedication to transforming lives at the spectacular YMCA Youth Matters Awards 2014.
Hosted by Kojo, radio presenter at Capital XTRA, the gala event took place at the Shaw Theatre in Central London on Tuesday 2 December. Five remarkable young people and one YMCA were officially recognised and presented with a trophy in front of an inspired audience.
We are delighted to announce the winners as:
- Global Link Award – Rachel Dyne, Romford YMCA
- Young Volunteer of the Year Award, sponsored by Charity Bank – Michael Jelly, Romford YMCA
- Young Worker of the Year Award, sponsored by UA – Jason Whybrow, West Kent YMCA
- Young Achiever of the Year Award, sponsored by Gladstone Health & Leisure – Noel Willis, Romford YMCA
- YMCA of the Year Award – YMCA North Staffordshire
This year’s special accolade, the Young Inspiration of the Year Award, was given to gymnast and Olympic bronze medallist, Daniel Purvis.
Having trained at YMCA Southport since he was seven years old, Danny was first introduced to the club by his parents who hoped that it would help him use up excess energy. Through years of hard work and determination, Danny achieved international success and is an inspiration to other young people across the country who dream of succeeding in their chosen sport.
Throughout the evening the stage was set alight by a sensational showcase performed by talented YMCA young people from around the country and the emerging R&B group MiC Lowry.
Huge congratulations to all our award winners and nominees and a big thank you to everyone who contributed to make this year’s Youth Matters Awards an evening to remember!
