Over 150 people from YMCAs across the Midlands will come together on Tuesday 15 November, at a special event hosted by Richard Whitehead, world record holder and GB Paralympian, to celebrate the outstanding achievements and successes of local young people. Richard will present the ten YMCA Midlands Regional Awards, which were designed and developed by young people from across the Midlands, at Burton Albion F.C.'s Pirelli Stadium. On the night guests will hear about Richard's own personal successes and achievements, and will also be treated to some exciting performances from local young people. Mark Elliott, Regional Youth Involvement Coordinator, said: "We are very excited to have Richard with us. He has agreed to be an ambassador for our Disability Awareness Campaign and is a real inspiration to us, especially to those of us who do not have a disability. We help to develop and support many young people who are really vulnerable and have not had the life chances many are fortunate to have. This makes their achievements all the more significant and we shall be recognising them again at our annual awards celebration. Richard's involvement is like the "icing on the cake" and I know he will be a big hit with everyone!" Attendees will also have the opportunity earlier in the day to take part in a series of workshops, including understanding gang culture, practical music and HIV/Aids awareness. |
