YMCA England's President, The Most Revd and Right Hon Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York, hosted a special event on Tuesday 6 November at the Caledonian Club, London to thank a select group of donors for their ongoing support and welcome new friends to the YMCA.
The Archbishop spoke to guests about his involvement with the YMCA and shared his experiences of YMCAs he has visited across England.
Guests also heard from Caric James and Julious Joseph – two young men from City YMCA who have set up their own social enterprise following support from the YMCA.
Gary Clayton and Vicky Rodgers – two peer mentors from Black Country YMCA – also shared their stories about being homeless and how the YMCA has supported them in transforming their lives.
The Archbishop said: "It's always inspiring to hear first-hand the difference the YMCA makes to the lives of young people. It is hard not feel moved by Caric, Julious, Gary and Vicky. Their stories show how the unwavering support from the YMCA has enabled them to find the courage and determination within themselves to transform their lives for the better."
