Paul Smillie, Director of Movement Democracy at YMCA England, won the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) Company Secretary of the Year Award in the not-for-profit category last night.
Paul was presented with his award at the Excellence in Governance Awards hosted by broadcaster and publisher Andrew Neil at the Brewery in London.
The ICSA judges were impressed by the exemplary way Paul handles his extensive responsibilities, including ensuring that the YMCA 121 member organisations are kept abreast of changes to charity and company law, and overseeing the leases for 150 charity shops in England.
Paul said: "I'm delighted to have won the Company Secretary of the Year Award in the not-for-profit category. I have been involved with the YMCA for 40 years now and truly believe in the work the organisation does in transforming the lives of young people. To be recognised for my contribution is a great honour!"
