South London YMCA was formed by the merger in 2006 of Croydon YMCA and the YMCA of Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. Originally established in Croydon in 1861, today South London YMCA is a still key player in housing and supporting homeless young people, and also those experiencing problems with alcohol and domestic violence. South London YMCA works in the London Boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth and Sutton. Our main work is with homeless young people providing them with housing, support and guidance to empower them towards independent living and building a better life. We also have specialist services that include an intensive support hostel for alcohol and drug users, an alcohol counselling service (free for residents living within the London Borough of Croydon) and a project that offers accommodation to women and their children fleeing from domestic violence. In Sutton we operate a tenancy sustainment service supporting people who are in danger of losing their home due to alcohol or substance misuse. The Association's newest specialist project is a community host scheme, where local families open up their homes to young people from the black communities who are in danger of being made homeless. |
