YMCA responds to Homelessness Reduction Bill passing its final stage through Parliament.
Denise Hatton, Chief Executive of YMCA England, the National Council of YMCAs in England and Wales, said:
“Today’s passing of the Homelessness Reduction Bill is a step in the right direction. However, while it is giving local authorities more duties to prevent homelessness, in less than two weeks it will be taking away the single biggest means of doing this for 18 to 21-year-olds, in removing their access to housing support.
“If this Government is genuine about reducing homelessness, it should seriously consider stopping the introduction of the regulations that will potentially leave thousands of vulnerable young people without support and without a home.”
