YMCA: Giving Support

We believe that being part of a healthy and stable family gives a young person the best possible start in life. Family breakdown can often be the cause of homelessness among young people. We work with young people and their families to bring about reconciliation and help rebuild relationships. Where this isn't possible, we offer the dedicated support a young person needs to get back on track.

We offer a range of support to families, including childcare services, holiday clubs, respite for young carers, before and after school activities, support for those at risk of exclusion from school, family mediation and parenting programmes.

We also work in partnership with schools and local councils to run children’s centres.

Support for Young Parents

Britain has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe. Caring for young parents and giving them the right kind of support is critical both for their and their child’s futures. For young parents, the pressure of dealing with childcare issues can make staying in school or training seem impossible. We help young parents to meet their personal development needs whilst learning how to be a good parent.
