Carlie, YMCA Swansea

Carlie has worked at YMCA Swansea for 18 months. During that time she has helped transform the youth department, demonstrating outstanding commitment to building a brighter future for young people.

She wants to help as many vulnerable young people as physically possible, inspired by youth workers that supported her through a traumatic childhood.

It is testament to Carlie’s tenacious and driven character that she has used her experiences to help others. Her commitment to professional and personal development means she is one of the most highly regarded youth workers in the region.

She works with some of the most disengaged young people that may be experiencing life threatening and abusive environments. She helps them to build a brighter future, never lets them down and never gives up.

Carlie is a passionate advocate for young people’s rights making sure their voices are heard while being non-judgemental, empathic and a pillar of support. She is an inspirational role model to her colleagues and has a positive impact upon YMCA Swansea’s culture. Under Carlie’s influence, the youth department at YMCA Swansea has been recognised for many awards by notable bodies including the Wales Council for Voluntary Action and the Welsh Government.

Her role as a Change Agent representing YMCAs in Wales means Carlie is able to share her knowledge and learn from others on an international level. Her determination to change young people’s lives for the better and her compassionate and warm nature makes YMCA a better place with her in it.
