YMCA Trinity Group has teamed up with app developers Thrive to offer schools across Cambridgeshire and Suffolk a new, clinically proven mobile app to support student and staff wellbeing.
Working with the developers, YMCA Trinity Group has adapted the NHS approved app for a youth audience and is distributing it to local schools from just £2 per user per year – a fraction of the open market cost.
When purchasing the app, schools and colleges are provided with a number of licences for students and staff who use the evidence-based tools to prevent and detect common mental health conditions as early as possible.
The app adds to YMCA Trinity Group’s range of mental health intervention services currently offered to schools across the across Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Peterborough and Suffolk regions, and so far the adapted app has been well received with 5,500 purchased.
“Thrive is a tool developed by psychiatrists and psychologists. In our trials, the app identified many young people displaying signs of moderate to severe depression. Using the exercises and techniques within the app, more than a quarter of these students reported signs of recovery, whilst others sought external help. The research indicates that the cost of treatment totalled just over £5 per person vs a minimum of £270 for 1-to-1 treatment as part of a basic counselling programme.
“We’re very proud that the Thrive app is showing such promising results already – the results show just how effective it can be as a tool alongside other support.”
Some of the tools offered on the app include:
- Calm breathing
- Meditation
- Deep muscle relaxation
- Daily wellbeing goals and reminders
- Signposting tools to other services
