We had 49 incredible runners take on the London Marathon on Sunday 28 April and are on target to raise £100,000, our highest ever fundraising target for the event.
The money we raise through the London Marathon will enable us to provide safe accommodation for homeless young people, support for those with mental health problems, and the opportunity for others to access life-changing education and training. You can still help the team hit their target by visiting the Team YMCA justgiving page.
Wendy Whittaker-Large, trustee for YMCA Crewe, was one of our runners and has smashed her fundraising target, raising over £2,300. Wendy became a trustee after being impressed by “the level of love and care [YMCA] showed to the people who needed them at a pivotal point in their lives”, and was thrilled when she got a charity place to run the marathon.
A big thank you to all our runners going above and beyond for us. There were runners representing YMCAs in Bedfordshire, Burton, Cheltenham, Crewe, Leicester, Maidstone, Manchester, Neath, St Paul’s Group, Wellington and Y Care International.
Thank you to the volunteers and YMCA Ten Sing choir who came to cheer on the runners at mile 17.
