YMCA Somerset Coast is celebrating finally being able to start the building of a major £1.8million flagship project that combines housing for young people and facilities for the local community.

Work started last month on transforming a grade-two listed former hotel which has fallen into a state of extreme disrepair, in Highbridge, Somerset, into 22 affordable flats for young people. The development will also offer sports facilities accessible to the public and a YMCA hub, with completion on track for autumn 2016.

Whilst the town awaits the opening of the facility, YMCA Somerset Coast has engaged people from the community by asking schools and groups to design artwork based on the hopes and aspirations for the development. This has then been transferred onto vibrant boards surrounding the site as building work continues.
