Philip Hammond, Chancellor of the Exchequer, delivered his second budget today. Responding to the budget, Denise Hatton, Chief Executive for YMCA England & Wales, said:
“Today’s budget includes some positive new measures and we welcome the focus on increasing the number of new homes across the country.
“Building 300,000 new homes a year will go some way to making up for the shortfall of the past decades. However, it’s absolutely crucial that the majority of these are low-cost homes that are affordable for the average person, especially young people, as even by abolishing stamp duty for first-time buyers, homeownership is still just a distant dream for most young people.”
