YMCA England & Wales has partnered with the Cabinet Office to deliver a range of exciting democratic engagement activities in the lead up to National Democracy Week.
National Democracy Week, which runs from 2 to 8 July, is a week-long celebration of democracy in society and includes events, talks and fun activities. It is an opportunity to celebrate progress and champion future democratic participation in this historic Centenary year of Suffrage. The inaugural National Democracy Week will kick off on Monday 2 July 2018, the 90th anniversary of the 1928 Equal Franchise Act, which gave women the same voting rights as men.
Local YMCAs across England and Wales are being encouraged to participate in National Democracy Week and to host an event. The Cabinet Office has produced a range of materials, including a partner pack, posters, leaflets and branding to help organise events. Participation in National Democracy Week can range from talks on how to get your voice heard locally to encouraging young people to register to vote.
