In order to support the creation of a strong YMCA presence in East Sussex, YMCA DownsLink Group and Eastbourne & Wealden YMCA have merged.
The agreement, which was completed on 4 June, was forged as a result of the two organisations working strongly together in recent years to develop more and better services for young people in the region.
Chas Walker, CEO of YMCA DownsLink Group, said: “YMCA DownsLink Group and Eastbourne & Wealden YMCA have been working closely together over the past couple of years.
“Both Boards of Trustees are pleased to have reached the position of formally merging the organisations to ensure the YMCA has the capacity to further develop its services in East Sussex to meet the needs of children and young people.”
Following the move, Steve Puttock, CEO of Eastbourne & Wealden YMCA, has taken the personal decision to move on to a new challenge, but will be working with YMCA DownsLink Group in a contractor capacity for six months, to support the organisations’ integration post-merger.
Steve has been CEO at Eastbourne & Wealden YMCA for 13 years and has overseen significant developments in the organisation, working closely with sector partners and the wider community to reach and impact more young lives. This includes, developing supported housing in Eastbourne and Hailsham, as well as a range of innovative community projects that have supported young people to belong, contribute and thrive.
