Why 5 in a Team?
Getting a team of 5 is part of the challenge. Large teams bring logistical problems – 5 is small and simple!
Can my YMCA enter more Teams?
Of course … the more teams, the more fun … but they should take different routes and not walk together.
What route should we take?
You decide It’s your challenge … but you have to complete it within 175 minutes and get back to the endpoint, at St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Trafalgar Square, by 2:00pm. Further details of each location will be sent to the Team Leader 4 weeks before the event, and a YMCA location marker (person!) will greet Teams at each location.
What’s the start time on 6 June?
Again, it’s up to you. We’d suggest you start sometime between 9:00am – 11:00am. You start when you Tweet your first Team selfie from one of the 9 locations.
Team selfies?
Using #YMCAheritagewalk chronicle your Team’s progress around the walk by tweeting a Team selfie at each of the 9 locations. Check out the progress of other teams –A Prize for the most ‘creative’ photo tweeted from each location.
Who’s responsible for my Team?
Each Team must have a responsible Team Leader (aged over 18) and have the permission of their associated YMCA to participate. The Team Leader will be sent a risk assessment 4 weeks before the event, which they must complete on behalf of their team, and remain responsible for their team throughout the event.
How much £££ should we raise?
We think a Team challenge of £175 pp is a great goal (That’s £875 per Team). If your team raises more, then our partners Y Care International, and YMCA175 will be able to support even more young people.
How should my Team collect sponsors?
We’ve created a JustGiving webpage which you can edit and use for your Team to receive online donations. You can also download a paper sponsorship form. All giving from sponsorships will be collected through YMCA England & Wales charity number, allowing Gift Aid to be added. Funds will be distributed to our YMCA partners after the event.
What is the Celebration Service at 2:30pm on 6 June?
The Official Celebration Service marking the 175 Years of YMCA worldwide, starts at 2:30pm at St-Martin-in-the-Fields church, in Trafalgar Square –the challenge endpoint. Contributions include YMCA Young People’s Gospel Choir, YMCA EW President –Archbishop Sentamu, YMCA World General Secretary –Carlos Sanvee … and hopefully YOU.
How does this event link with the YMCA World Challenge?
This year’s World Challenge is due to take place on 8 June 2019, and involves committing 175 minutes in voluntary service. We’ve designed the YMCA 175 Heritage Walk Challenge so that you can do your 175 minutes of voluntary service 2 days early, by raising funds as part of the YMCA 175 Heritage Walk Challenge.
